What is the Wellcare Spendables Card?

Your Wellcare Spendables card is a pre-loaded debit card that you can use to pay for eligible products and services.

Your card comes with a monthly or quarterly dollar amount to help you pay for some out-of-pocket expenses. The type of items and services your card covers depends on your health plan. You can only use the card to pay for certain things determined by your plan.

To learn what your plan covers, check your plan materials. You can also log in to your secure member portal and click Wellcare Spendables. Here, you can find a list of covered items and categories, which may include over-the-counter (OTC) products, healthy food, and more.

How do I activate my Wellcare Spendables card?

You need to activate your Wellcare Spendables card before you use it for the first time.

You have 3 options to activate your card.

  1. Go to your secure member portal.
  2. Call 1-855-256-4620 (TTY 711) to activate your card over the phone.
  3. Download the Healthy Benefits+ app and create an account to activate your card.

How much money is on my Wellcare Spendables card? How can I see my Wellcare Spendables balance?

To see how much money is on your Wellcare Spendables card, log in to your secure member portal and select Wellcare Spendables. How much is on your card and when it loads will vary by plan.

Yes, you can use your Wellcare Spendables card at participating locations to purchase things like:

  • Allergy and sinus
  • Cold and flu
  • Incontinence products
  • And more

To see what over-the-counter products you can purchase with your Wellcare Spendables card, log in to your secure member portal and click Wellcare Spendables.

Tips for using your Wellcare Spendables Card:

  • Your Wellcare Spendables card can only be used to purchase eligible OTC items
  • If your order total is more than your available Spendable OTC balance, you will need to pay for any remaining total due, using cash, check, or a personal credit or debit card.
    • For example: if your total order is $50, and your available Wellcare Spendables balance is $30, your remaining total would be $20. You would need to pay the remaining $20 with cash, check, or a personal credit or debit card.

Yes, many plans allow for your card to be used to pay for both in-network and out-of-network hearing expenses. You can use your card where the primary business is hearing services.

First, have your doctor use your health plan member ID card for any hearing exams or services that may be covered by your plan. If you have out-of-pocket expenses after using your insurance, you can use your Wellcare Spendables card for payment.

Your Wellcare Spendables card can then be used to help pay for out-of-pocket costs for things like:

    -    Hearing aids
    -    Hearing aid batteries
    -    Hearing aid accessories

Yes, many plans allow for your card to be used to pay for both in-network and out-of-network dental expenses. You can use your card where the primary business is dental services.

First, have your doctor use your health plan member ID card for any dental exams or services that may be covered by your plan. If you have out-of-pocket expenses after using your insurance, you can use your Wellcare Spendables card for payment.

Your Wellcare Spendables card can be used to help pay for out-of-pocket costs like:

    -    Dentures
    -    Fillings
    -    Crowns

Note: Your Wellcare Spendables card cannot be used for procedures like cosmetic dentistry or teeth whitening.

Yes, many plans allow for your card to be used to pay for both in-network and out-of-network vision expenses. You can use your card where the primary business is vision services.

First, have your doctor use your health plan member ID card for any vision exams or services that may be covered by your plan. If you have out-of-pocket expenses after using your insurance, you can use your Wellcare Spendables card for payment.

Your Wellcare Spendables card can be used to help pay for out-of-pocket costs like:

    -    Glasses
    -    Contact lenses
    -    Contact lens solution

If your plan offers healthy food through Wellcare Spendables, you can use your card to buy healthy and nutritious food.

You can use your Wellcare Spendables Card at participating stores near you. To shop online, visit your member portal.

Find local stores near you using the Store Finder on your member portal under Wellcare Spendables or on the HealthyBenefits+ app. Simply enter your zip code or allow the mobile app to detect your current location.

Remember, your Wellcare Spendables card can only be used to purchase eligible healthy food items.

To see if your plan covers Healthy Food with Wellcare Spendables, log into your member portal or check your plan materials.

For some plans, you can use your card to help with the cost of rent for your home.  Check your plan materials we mailed to you or log in to your secure member portal to see if this is included in your plan.

Payments are accepted for expenses such as:

  • Apartment rent
  • Housing rent
  • Property rental agency
  • Your home lender

You can either log into your secure member portal to pay providers or you can pay direct to providers on the company’s website. 

For some plans, you can use your card to help pay for utilities like:

  • Electric, gas, sanitary/trash, and water utilities
  • Landline and cell phone services
  • Internet or cable TV service (excludes streaming services)
  • Certain petroleum expenses, such as home heating oil

Your card cannot be used to set up automated, recurring payments.

Check the plan materials we mailed to you or log in to your secure member portal to see if this is included in your plan.

Some plans offer money to be used towards fueling up at the gas pump. This is only offered at select gas stations.

Pay-at-the-pump may not be available at smaller or locally owned gas stations. Be sure to check the Store Finder to find the closest gas station near you.

Your Wellcare Spendables card cannot be used to pay in person at the cash register. If you go inside the gas station to pay for your gas, your card transaction will be declined. The card can only be used up to the available allowance amount at the pump. 

You can use your Wellcare Spendables card at participating retailers near you and nationwide.

Examples of where you can use your card include:

  • Walmart Stores
  • Kroger
  • CVS
  • Walgreens
  • Dollar General
  • Albertsons Companies
  • Publix
  • Piggly Wiggly Midwest

Find local stores near you using the Store Finder. Log in to your secure member portal and click Wellcare Spendables. Enter your zip code to start searching.

Yes! You can use your Wellcare Spendables card in-store. Not all products are covered by your Wellcare Spendables card. Find covered items by logging in to your member portal and click Wellcare Spendables.

At checkout, if your total is more than the available balance on your Wellcare Spendables card, you will need to pay the remaining amount using cash, check, or a personal credit or debit card. 

  • For example: Let’s say your total order is $50 and you have $30 available on your Wellcare Spendables card. You can use the $30 available on your Wellcare Spendables card to buy eligible products. Your remaining total is now $20. You would need to pay the remaining $20 with cash, check, or a personal credit or debit card. 

Yes! You can use your Wellcare Spendables card when shopping online. Not all products are covered by your Wellcare Spendables card. Find covered items by logging in to your member portal and click Wellcare Spendables.

Not every product can be purchased using your Wellcare Spendables dollars. If some of the products you are buying are covered by Wellcare Spendables, and some are not, you do not need to separate the items at checkout. Start by using your Wellcare Spendables dollars to pay for eligible products. You will need to pay for products not covered by Wellcare Spendables, or for any remaining total due, using cash, check, or a personal credit or debit card. 

  • For example: Let’s say your total order is $50 and you have $30 available on your Wellcare Spendables card. You can use the $30 available on your Wellcare Spendables card to buy eligible products. Your remaining total is now $20. You would need to pay the remaining $20 with cash, check, or a personal credit or debit card. 

Your Wellcare Spendables card cannot be used at an ATM or to get cash back at the register. The Wellcare Spendables card can only be used by you for your health needs and cannot be sold or transferred to someone else. 

If your card isn’t working, there are several things you can do:

  1. Make sure your card has been activated before using it.
  2. Check that the item you are trying to purchase is an approved item for OTC, Healthy Food, etc.

If you are still having problems with your card, please contact Member Services.

If you think your card is lost, stolen, or don’t recognize transactions on your Spendables card, please call 1-855-744-8550 (TTY 711). We are here from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 7 days a week between October 1 and March 31 and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday between April 1 and September 30.
